This past week I’m sure you’ve seen the words venom everywhere from bad reviews to social media sites to the cinema themselves. That’s because the much-hyped film by Sony was released and of course everyone was anxious to see what had been done with this fan favorite.
The film features Eddie Brock, a journalist trying to expose Carlton Drake for the maniac he is. Head of the Life Foundation known for curing disease at a high price. When Eddie is investigating into one of Drake’s main experiments, Eddie finds venom. An alien that has been captured and trying to find the best host to simply survive and absorbing it’s hosts traits. Venom merges with Eddie and gives him superhuman strength, overwhelming hunger and the feeling of twisted rage.
Although Sony had their adaptation, where they couldn’t use the likes of Spider-man this is one of the massive things that made venom the twisted parasite he is. What some fans might not know is a lot of venom’s signature traits come from the few moments he was bonded to Spider-man, like the eyes of venom are a lot like Spider-Mans and the logo that should be on his chest ‘an inverted spider’.
In the comics, Venom becomes obsessed with spider-man. Spider-Man found venom in the secret wars comics after Thor and Hulk pointed the way to the clothes generator machine. However, Spider-man sat on the wrong machine and became bonded with venom. Cut to 10 minutes earlier where Deadpool was in the same room and bonded with the symbiote.
As said previously stated symbiotes like venom takes traits from their hosts, it is said that his obsession with spider-man came from Deadpool. As a common rule in the Marvel universe, no telepathic creature reads Deadpool’s mind, simply just because of how twisted and fucked up it is. It can cause the purest mind to be overwhelmed and go insane. After 10 minutes Deadpool allowed the symbiote to be free, however, even the merk with a mouth hoped he hadn’t driven it crazy (see the comic strip below), once it bonded with Spider-man he became obsessed thinking Peter Parker was the perfect host. Only after spider-man noticed that he wasn’t in control of his own actions did he want out, venom has since blamed Spider-man and wants back with his perfect host.
Bonus; If you’ve seen the Venom film recently you’ll notice in the mid-credit scene Eddie Brock says to Venom that he’s going to the prison to do an interview, but it’s not a venom thing it’s an Eddie thing.
Cut to the guard opening a cell containing a psychopath called Cletus Kasady who we see has carved Eddie’s name in blood on his cell wall (Carnage does with all his victims), who asks Eddie to come closer “When he gets out of there, there’s gonna be Carnage”. This is alluding to his alter-ego Carnage.
Still, haven’t seen venom and undecided if you should? Sammeh gives us her thoughts on this symbiotes film. But honestly, despite the few flaws, the chemistry between Venom and Eddie makes this film worth the watch.
