Geek in a Week Presents: The Fantastic Fan-Cast

You may have seen in the news about an all out bidding war between Disney and Comcast over assets from 20th Century Fox. Most of these include film rights such as Avatar, the Planet of the Apes franchise and of course many Marvel properties including the X-Men and the Fantastic Four. We all know that if Disney succeeded in purchasing these assets then fan favourite characters like Wolverine, Magneto & Dr Doom can all join the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and interact with Iron Man or Captain America. There are reportedly plans at the moment to integrate these characters but nothing is confirmed as of yet, only that we probably won’t see all of them join officially after 2021. There are strong chances that the current line of X-Men in the films and TV shows will be rebooted in order to differentiate the studios properties and the same can be said for the Fantastic Four. So without further ado, here is my official fan-cast for the heroes of the Fantastic Four!

Heroes

Reed Richards/Mr Fantastic

Who else wants to see Mr Fantastic debate minds with Doctor Strange, Iron Man and Bruce Banner? Or help defeat Doctor Doom with the help of our friendly neighbourhood Spider-Man? Marvel’s first family needs to come to come home fast after Phase 4, and yes I know that John Krasinski and Emily Blunt would be perfect for the main roles but I believe I have a better candidate for an intelligent, charismatic and loyal hero as Mr Fantastic.

My Choice: Joseph Gordon-Levvit

So this one might be a bit of a stretch…get it? My choice for the lead role is Joseph Gordon-Levvit, mainly from is portrayal as the soon to be Robin in The Dark Knight Rises and as Cobra Commander in GI Joe. Besides HE LOOKS LIKE REED RICHARDS! IMAGINE HIM WITH THE SILVER STREAKS MAKE IT HAPPEN DISNEY!

Susan Storm/The Invisible Woman

The leading lady is equally important as the leading man right? The right actress for the role has to have the right chemistry with Reed Richards and being a similar age wouldn’t help. Let’s hope whoever is cast won’t stay invisible, and there’s only one lady in my mind who has taken on robots, aliens and mythical creatures in all her roles…

My Choice: Emilia Clarke

“Daenerys Stormborn of the House TargaryenFirst of Her Name, the Unburnt, Queen of the Andals and the First Men, Khaleesi of the Great Grass Sea, Breaker of Chains, and Mother of Dragons.” Need I say more? Her roles as Sarah Connor in Terminator: Genisys and Q’ira in Solo, A Star Wars Story might do.

Johnny Storm/The Human Torch

Source: comicvine.gamespot.com/human-torch

The Human Torch is the younger brother of The Invisible Woman, and in nature is kind of arrogant, cocky and immature whilst still maintaining the right morals of being a superhero, and let’s face it most people want someone who is hot enough to flame on into your hearts…

My Choice: Dave Franco

I know he’s no Chris Evans, but hear me out. Although he’s mainly been known for his comedic roles, his performances in Now You See Me and Nerve convince me Dave is ready to join the ranks of Chris Evans and Michael B. Jordan. And hey, to become the Human Torch you need to be naturally funny and bring a light-hearted comedic relief to what otherwise could be dark and dangerous story lines.

Benjamin Grimm/The Thing

Whoever ends up playing The Thing, they’ll need a larger than life presence and will definitely have some rocky shoes to fill in to compete with Michael Chiklis for sure. I have an actor who is ready to clobber his way out from the Upside Down and ready to do battle with the villainous Blood Queen…

My Choice: David Harbour

You might only recognise him as Chief Jim Hopper from Stranger Things, or you’re excited to see him portray the titular character in Hellboy next year, but David Harbour has appeared in many films in minor roles, including Quantum of Solace, Green Hornet and Suicide Squad. His impressive acting and fatherly/caring figure is perfect for the fate of Benjamin Grimm.

H.E.R.B.I.E.

Source: comicvine.gamespot.com/herbie

H.E.R.B.I.E (Or Humanoid Experimental Robot, B-Type Integrated Electronics) was a robot assistant created by Mr Fantastic on the planet Xandar to defeat a villain known as the Sphinx. He first originally appeared as a replacement for the Human Torch in the 1978 Fantastic Four animated series.

My Choice: Bill Hader (Voice)

While i’d love to see H.E.R.B.I.E. built as a real life prop for the MCU, there’s only one man in my opinion who is able to take up the role of H.E.R.B.I.E., Bill Hader. Bill is known for his roles on Saturday Night Live and his many voices for Flint Lockwood in Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, Fear in Inside Out and Alpha-5 from the reboot movie of Power Rangers, so he has experience voicing robotic assistants! Did you know that H.E.R.B.I.E. was meant to appear briefly in the 2015 Fantastic Four but was ultimately cut from the film.

Norrin Radd/The Silver Surfer

Source: comicvine.gamespot.com/silver-surfer

Whilst not a member of the Fantastic Four, the Silver Surfer is owned by fox as everyone remembers the not so great Rise of the Silver Surfer sequel. The herald of Galactus deserves a second chance, and needs someone with a great voice who could physically bring the character to life.

My Choice: Michael Sheen

Michael Sheen has an incredible roster of film and TV credits such as Passengers, Tron: Legacy, Alice in Wonderland and Doctor Who. Michael as a glowing presence on screen and has a heart of gold (or, silver) which makes the argument for him to portray him even more compelling! Plus who wouldn’t want a cameo from Nebula so her and Norrin can have their own adventures in time and space? I know I do! (P.S. if you understand the reference then well done to you!).

Namor McKenzie/Namor, The Sub-Mariner

Source: comicvine.gamespot.com/namor

A relatively unknown character compared to the rest, Namor is the Marvel equivalent of DC’s Aquaman and has been associated with the Fantastic Four and X-Men in a number of series, so why not include him now? Well it’s tricky as Namor’s film rights are actually with Universal not 20th Century Fox (Universal still hold the rights to the Hulk and similar characters) but why stop there? if Marvel can make successful deals with Sony anything is possible right?…right??

My Choice: Steven Yeun

Source: m.media-amazon.com/images/M/MV5BMTcxODE2MDgxOF5BMl5BanBnXkFtZTgwNjk2MDM1NzE@._V1_.jpg

Anyways my choice for Namor is Steven Yeun basically for his TV credits, and yes he is Glenn from the Walking Dead. Namor has a twisted and tragic backstory, and Steven has shown that throughout his role as Glenn (even when he did meet his fate at the end of a bat). If you are a true Marvel fan like me you would know that Namor has been teased in Iron Man 2 when Nick Fury is showing Iron Man the locations of possible Avengers (which they also teased Wakanda and Black Panther…just saying).

Well I guess that is it for the main heroes for the New Fantastic Four, but tell me who do you want to see take centre stage as members of Marvel’s first family and friends? Next time we’ll see who i’d cast as the villains looking to pick a fight with the Fantastic Four!

This is Jac signing off and i’ll see you next time for your dose of Geek in a Week.
