Majority of my close friends go a little bit crazy when new trailers drop, particularly my boyfriend too. Often I get sent them with something along the lines of “omg you have to watch this Sammeh!” Or “Sam, omg look” but is only 1/5 times I’ll actually properly look at what they’ve sent me. I know that sounds quite horrible that I’m actively ignoring messages from the people I care loads about, but I have one thing that really gets me, I don’t like watching movie trailers for a film I intend to watch.
Why is that?
Okay, so it would be a lie to say I’ve not watched any movie trailers in a while, because, in fact, I watched one at work yesterday. A colleague recommended I watched the new How to train your dragon 3 trailer, and although it was cute and funny, and I intend to go see it when it’s released, it’s not something I would have searched for if I was sat at work waiting for people to arrive. In fact, I got sent the trailer by a handful of people when it got released the day before and I didn’t click it.
To me, watching trailers takes away from the film. I know they’re intended as advertising to give people a teaser or a taste of the film. But some go a little too far, (read; Avengers: Age of Ultron) and by the third trailer release, you’ve seen the whole film, or at least the “good bits.”
I’m unsure of which of the two it was, but either Spider-Man: Homecoming or Thor: Ragnarok, I hadn’t watched all the trailers for it before it was released, and there was a joke that was in the film that was in the trailer too, and there I was, only one in the cinema giggling to myself because I’d never heard the line before, yet everyone else had because of the trailer. Either that, or everyone else has a terrible sense of humour.
“But I saw you share the Infinty War trailer on Facebook”
Okay, so once again, I’d be lying if I said I hadn’t watched a trailer recently. I also have a habit of binge watching trailers. The IMDb app is my go to for all things movies and although I get notifications when new trailers are released, I still find myself watching back to back trailers, all in one go. I suppose it’s like going to the cinema, those long trailer reels before the film actually starts. Oh, yeah those are the bane of my life too, I will avoid watching trailers for a certain film and then I’m sat there, like when I watched Deadpool 2 and suddenly there I am, knowing all about the Venom film I was hoping not to spoil for myself. But hey, what can I do, a film lover like myself should probably want to watch movie trailers, so here are a few of my faves.
Venom – October 2018
Bohemian Rhapsody – October 2018
Wreck-it Ralph 2: Ralph Breaks the Internet – November 2018
