Geek in a Week- Week 10

Hi there and welcome back to Geek in a Week, this is your fellow correspondent Jac with this week’s news! It seems like forever that we’ve had a proper geek in a week but not to fear! I’m back and here to catch you up on what you may have missed!

This Week’s Headline News: Zachary Levi Cast as Shazam!

Yes Warner Brothers have cast it’s lead (well one half of it’s lead) as Zachary Levi (Chuck, Thor: Dark World, Tangled) is your Shazam! Levi will portray the older version of William “Billy” Batson, a small child who becomes one of the most powerful heroes in the universe (or at least until he says his name). Many other actors have been attached to this movie including Alan Ritchson, John Cena and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson who is rumoured to portray the film’s villain; Black Adam. We have yet to see who will be cast as Billy Batson but the film is scheduled to be released in 2019 so don’t expect anything soon. Will we see Shazam turn up in another DC film before hand? But the question in running through my mind is  “Will we see Green Lantern in Justice League?” Maybe we’ll find out on 16th November!

Now let’s head over to our casting corner and see who’s gonna play Beast Boy in Titans!

Yes our Beast Boy aka Garfield Logan will be played by none other than Ryan Potter. You may not recognise Potter, but you will recognise his voice as he played Hiro Hamada in Big Hero 6 and will reprise his role in the animated series based off of the film. For those who don’t know, Garfield Logan is the funny, wise-cracking, green skinned member of the titans who can transform into any animal at will. He was cured from a disease found in Africa by genetically bonding with animals, as only they could survive the disease. We almost have our complete set of Titans now: Nightwing, Starfire, Beast Boy, Raven and of course Hawk & Dove! No confirmation on whether we’ll see Cyborg, Blue Beetle or Terra in the series too, and of course who will the main villain? Rest assured we’ll head over to the T-Tower in 2018.

Next up a film that seems like it’s been through development hell and back again; Gambit has finally been confirmed for release!

Yes Gambit, the ragin’ Cajun mutant has finally been given a release date for 14th February, 2019. Gambit’s solo outing has been in development since 2014 where Channing Tatum was confirmed for the role, where film was given a date of October 7th 2016. After going through 2 directors (Rupert Wyatt & Doug Liman) the film has now an official director, ultimately Gore Verbinski. After years of nothing but rumours and dead ends, i’m so glad this move is still being produced and Gambit is my favourite mutant of all time. Only appearing in X-Men Orgins: Wolverine so far Gambit deserves a second chance on the big screen (Well it worked for Deadpool, right?). We also have rumours of the long awaited villain; Mister Sinister who was teased at the end of X-Men: Apocalypse to make his debut. What do you guys think? Are you happy that Gambit is finally being made or you think it’s still a dead horse at this point?

And finally for this week, it’s the turn of the woman as we have our first looks at villains Reign and Blacksmith from Supergirl and The Flash respectively.

First up, here’s Reign next to her comic book counterpart:

As you can see Reign looks a little different here, looking similar to Supergirl’s uniform and Overgirl (Who we’ll see in the crossover very soon). I believe though that Reign will turn more monstrous as the series goes on, as she wantes to become a hero for her daughter Ruby but will eventually turn into the series’s villain.

Now onto Blacksmith who will debut in Episode 5 of the Flash: “Girls Night Out”

As for Blacksmith, she looks a little more like her alter ego, but don’t worry as we’ll see more of her counterpart through the use of CGI to show off her meta-human powers. Amunet has already been name dropped at the beginning of the series as Caitlin decided to leave her underground black-market called “The Network”.

So there we have it, who do you thinks looks the best and who are you looking forward to see debut the most?

So that’s it for this week, but i’ll be back soon after I see a friend from work fight it out in a gladiatorial arena, then save the day against a goddess of death. That’s all to report for now, make sure to check back for your regular updates with all the geeky gossip and nerdy news.

Until then this is Jac, signing out.
