So, it’s over, Season 2 is over. My Hero Academia has taken the anime industry, my life and the lives of many others by storm over the past 2 years and it sure as hell isn’t over. Season 2 just wrapped up and by hell have I enjoyed every second of it so far. I’ve just purcahsed 4 volumes of the manga, a U.A T-shirt, an All Might pop and the second I can get them for a good price the blu-rays will be mine. (I don’t know if I should wait for the whole show when it comes out as a big box set) Today I’m here to remind you why you should be going beyond and watching the all-mighty My Hero Academia.
Special shout out to the three openings so far. They’re a work of art.
5 – The Supporting cast
Oh boy, with a supporting cast as big as My Hero Academia’s you’d expect redundancies everywhere and characters never being given any screentime and whilst there is an obvious divide between supporting cast and main cast, the supporting cast all have something you rarely see in anime supporting cast: Depth. Very few members of the supporting cast can you at this point look at and not have understanding for. They also all have fantastic unique designs that you wouldn’t often see of a cast this big.
4 – The Animation
Animation studio Bones are no stranger to animating good anime. Having both Soul Eater, Soul Eater Not, Mob Psycho 100, Fullmetal Alchemist and the fantastic Fullmetal Alchemist brotherhood on their history boasts to their quality alone but Hero Academia still manages to push my opinion of the studio. Season 2 Episode 10. All I’m gonna say.
3 – The writing and Querks
I compare this show to Fairy Tail a lot as it’s probably the show that is most similar in terms of writing, plot and genre. Hero Academia knocks Fairy Tail out of the park with it’s writing. The plot’s, the villains and the powers are so well thought out. Every power has a limit and those that don’t the characters personalities cover it. Every action feels genuine and there’s so little moments I can point a problem at with the show. By no means is the show perfect, nothing is. But for a shonen of this scale. It’s darn good.
2 – The main-side characters
The main-side characters of the show: Bakugo, Todoroki, Iida and Uraraka are all in one word real. They feel real. The best example of this is Iida who without going into too mcuh detail has some fantastically written self conflictin what he wants to be and what he actually is which when you get to it is probably one of the best arcs of the series so far. Todoroki is interesting but I don’t want to say too much to avoid spoilers. Uraraka is one I particularly like in the sense that she experiences a lot of growth as the show progresses. We learn her suprisingly real motivations for wanting to be a hero but a long the way we watch her grow appreciation for where she needs to improve which contineus to keep me engaged. Bakugo is probably the character that is the most interesting. Whilst he at first comes across as a generic ex machina moron with more power than sense, as the show progresses we learn actually how complex and diverse his character is and I’m to a point almost more interested in Bakugo than I am Midoriya.
1 – One for All.
Izuku “Deku” Midoriya, our shows protagonist is fantastic. He’s not perfect, but he’s damn good. He’s incredibly smart and despite not being able to use his power properly he still tries his hardest. As the show progresses he’s slowly getting a handle on the insane One for All power that All Might gave to him. All Might himself is also a number 1 reason to watch this show, called by many the best superman story to happen in a while (I can’t verify this). All Might and Deku’s story of passing the torch and Deku learning to become a hero always makes me scream with Delight when it happens. I am excited for where the shows going to take their relationship and the passing as we see Deku slowly become the worlds greatest hero but I am also scared for All Might and how he’s going to end up. One things for sure. You should be watching.
Thank you for reading, this for the most part concludes my discussion on this show for a while, remember to tweet us your thoughts!
