Okay so by now, I suppose most people have heard that they’re making a sequel of the Tim Burton/Disney crossover, The Nightmare Before Christmas.
Now this just happens to be one of my all time favourite films and so of course I had to write a post about my opinion on this.
So here it is.
Whiskey Tango Foxtrot.
Seriously?! Why would they do this?!
I’m pretty unimpressed about this one. Purely because there’s the huge risk of ruining the original classic. You may argue that it won’t, you may say “It’s gonna be a comic! Nothing will beat the original thing!” or “It’s not a remake, it’s a different story!” Which is true, partially. But there are, in fact, rumours of Burton liking the idea “so much” that he could turn it into a motion picture, much like the movie.
Yet, Burton once said that he would never create (or agree on) a sequel of The Nightmare Before Christmas, because it is an “only child”. He mentioned that the poem (that the film is based on) is a solo monologue, therefore the movie should be also.
So I was never really expecting to hear talk about a sequel because I knew it would never happen. Yet it is happening!
Deep down, a part of me is excited for the comics to release, because I do love The Nightmare Before Christmas, and personally I would feel like a fake fan if I didn’t bother to purchase them.
But I can’t help but be cautious about it. I just hope it does the original film justice, without completely revamping it unnecessarily.
What do you think about this? Are you worried about it like I am? Or are you looking forward to having a spooky party for it?
Let me know!!
This is me, signing off!
