Reporting the news can be a fun one, but when weeks like this strike it becomes heartbreaking. From terrorist attacks wanting to destroy Art, to the passing of a Rock n Roll magician. Sometimes we have to find a glimmer of light in the darkness, such as celebrating the life and encouraging new art.
This week we focus on;
– Las Vegas Shooting
– Tom Petty Passing
– Tim McGraw’s Exciting Announcement
Las Vegas Shooting
Sunday, October 1st, The Route 91 Harvest Festival (a Country Music Festival held outside) Singer Jason Aldean was performing when the gunshots started. The gunfire lasted between 10-15 minutes.
Like most media, I won’t be giving the information of the shooter, as I don’t want to give him a spotlight. But unfortunately, this has not been the first ‘Terror Attack’ involving music this year. Yes, I’m talking about the Manchester Bombing (suicide bomber attacks during Arina Grande Concert) but just like with Manchester Rocks, we will stand together and always continue to make and share music because we need to show that a person’s actions won’t stop us from sharing and creating art/ an experience.
Tom Petty Passing;
Famed for his descriptive magic with lyrics, Rock n Roll legend Tom Petty died at the age of 66 from Cardiac Arrest on October 2nd. Top hits included ‘Free Fallin’, ‘Runnin’ Down’, ‘American Girl’ only a few out of his catalogue of songs.
Originally written by Mike Campbell for their own band ‘Stop Draggin’ My Heart Around’ became the first single of Stevie Wicks Solo Career in 1981. Petty and The Heartbreakers accompanied her on the song. It is said that Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers were one of the worlds greatest live bands.
During the last show played, 25th September 2017 at the Hollywood Bowl celebrating the bands 40th Anniversary Petty Closed the show with ‘American Girl’ after speaking “We’re almost out of time, we’ve got time for this one here”. Little did he know he really did only have time for one last song.
Tim McGraw’s Exciting Announcement;
Country music is coming back with a fight and what better start than with Country Legend Tim McGraw releasing ‘The Rest Of Our Life’ November 17th with Wife Faith Hill. The two announced the project on October 6th, their wedding anniversary.
The Album will contain 11 songs, a new music video showcasing a sample of the new album with ‘The Rest Of Our Life’ s available to Amazon Music Unlimited for a short time only. Hill and McGraw worked with some famous help. The song was written by the one and only Ed Sheeran along with Amy Wadge, Johnny McDaid and Steve Mac.
The Album will also include CMA Award-nominated ‘Speak to a Girl’ which the couple showcased back in June (See below to get excited for the upcoming release!).
Spotlight Of The Week;
Like I said we have to keep encouraging and sharing new music, that’s why I am introducing this new segment showcasing a non-mainstream artist (mostly via YouTube). This weeks’ is a personal favourite of mine from interviewing him 2 years ago for a University assignment, I became a massive fan. Since then he has only continued to grow and produce incredible covers of popular songs with his own flair. But he’s also best known for producing his own originals like ‘White Wine’ which is personally one of my favourites. See below for a taste of his cover work with Ne-Yo’s ‘So Sick’ and his own ‘White Wine’.
I have a feeling new originals may be on the way…(he may have released some sneak peaks on his SnapChat which I honestly can’t wait for).
New album releases to look out for;
– P!nk – Beautiful Trauma – October 13th
– Wu-Tang Clan – Wu-Tang The Saga Continues – October 13th
– Tegan and Sara – The Con X: Covers – October 13th
Just because terrible things happen, doesn’t mean we can’t shine a little good and keep music standing strong. That’s one thing that can’t be taken away. As always come back next week for more Music News.
