10 Autumn Games I’m excited for

So it’s autumn, in England that means we’re about to get casually drowned in the ever unchanging British weather. For me, this means other than Uni and part time work I will be playing a slew of Video games, which this autumn looks like it’s going to be a challenge because I have a lot of games to be playing. So here is my list of 10 games I’m excited to be playing or games I’m looking forward to watch being played or hearing about from friends over the next few months.

Disclaimer: This is my opinion, I also haven’t included ports on this list.

10 – Assassins Creed Origins

Xbox One, Windows PC, PlayStation 4

I still need to finish Syndicate but Assassins Creed Origins is looking quite cool, the gameplay seems awesome. I particularly like how you can use Lions as tactical weapons in your stealth missions like at E3 and Ancient Egypt has always been a period of history I’ve been particularly interested in. Hopefully, Origins will be a cut above the rest. Personally, I won’t be picking this one up at launch and I’ll see how it goes before purchasing.

9 – Mario and Luigi Superstar Saga + Bowser’s minions

Nintendo 3DS

Mario and Luigi Superstar Saga, from what I played was a fun game. Throwing in the bowser’s minions mode and I’m very interested. A remake of an all time classic GBA Game. I got to play a bit on Virtual Console on my Wii U and it was a fairly fun and enjoyable experience. Here’s hoping the remake will deliver! I won’t be buying this one on launch but I’m definitely going to follow it.

8 – Super Lucky’s Tale

Windows 10 PC, Xbox One

Super Lucky’s Tale was one of my favourite games from Microsoft’s E3 Conference this year, the other being Ori Will of the Wisps. But alas, I can’t talk about the new Ori game because it’s not coming out this autumn. Super Lucky’s tale is an adorable 3d platformer, reminiscent of Super Mario 64 and the banjo games. It looks adorable and fun. Honestly, that’s all I need to tide me over a new adorable and fun platformer. The only problem is that game number 1 on this list will definitely overshadow it.

7 – Sonic Forces

Xbox One, Windows PC, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch

Sonic Mania has easily taken up over 10 hours of my life so far and it’s not finished. Sonic Forces will probably do the same and it’s a game I’m 100% in for. Sonic Forces won’t be as exciting or as amazing as Sonic Mania but it’ll still be a fun and exciting experience. Sonic Forces is the new 3D sonic game featuring current generation Sonic, Classic Sonic and the ability to create and use your own custom character. It looks like a fun experience I will definitely be involving myself in on launch. The pricing isn’t bad either with a price tag of under £40.

6 – Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon

Nintendo 3DS

I’ll be honest, I really didn’t enjoy Pokemon Sun and Moon. Games that were meant to celebrate 20 years of Pokemon honestly ended up feeling like a betrayal of what Pokemon stands for with a complete redesign of the gym system and a full focus on story based gameplay that honestly bored me to death. However, I’m willing to give them another shot with the Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon release. Hopefully, new features will make these games more exciting and I am definitely willing to spend the money to try these games. I do after all love Pokemon.

5 – Pokken Tournament DX

Nintendo Switch

Speaking of Pokemon, Pokken Tournament DX launches this month. I am very excited about playing this. I’ve been playing the demo and it’s a pretty fun fighting game. The game is designed by Bandai Namco whom have done the Tekken series and is based on the Wii U version of the game so we’re looking at a potentially exciting experience.

4 – Fire Emblem Warriors

Nintendo 3DS, Nintendo Switch

Fire Emblem Warriors is a warriors style game based on the Fire Emblem series. I’ve only ever played a bit of Fire Emblem but it’s a turn-based tactical combat game based in a fantasy world of magic and swords, Fire Emblem Warriors adds the well built up dynasty warriors formula to the game essentially taking the turn-based tactical combat and converting it to a real time hack and slash combat system. I’m interested in trying this system and see what’s been changed. However, if after this I don’t, I’ll just sit back relax and hack ‘n’ slash my way through this very promising looking game.

3 – Yono and the Celestial Elephants

PC, Nintendo Switch

Zelda with an elephant protagonist. Oh, I have to properly explain this? Yono and the Celestial Elephants is an action adventure puzzle game in which you play as an elephant, solve puzzles and do various Elephant things! Honestly, Yono looks adorable and like an honest challenge. The puzzles seen in the trailer interested me to see how Elephant based puzzle mechanics are going to work so I’m definitely going to pick this game up.

2 – Metroid Samus Returns

Nintendo 3DS

Metroid games are some of my favourite games I played as a kid. I played the Metroid Prime games for hours at a time and played Metroid Fusion so much as a kid. I even gave Super Metroid a go on my Wii when it was released on virtual console. The opportunity to play a Metroid game again is filling me with excitement. This is especially the case after Federation forces which for many fans (myself included) was a disappointment and did not feel like a true Metroid game. Metroid Samus Returns is a remake of Metroid II Return of Samus with added features. I’m looking forward to giving this Metroid game a lot of my time and enjoying falling back behind the visor of Samus Aran.

1 – Super Mario Odyssey

Nintendo Switch

Oh, boy, do I love 3D Mario Games. Super Mario Galaxy ate up far too much of my revision time during GCSE’s and Super Mario Sunshine nearly got me thrown off my Grandad’s TV several times. I got to actually play some Super Mario Odyssey during Insomnia in August and it’s very fun. Going back a bit I remember when the game was announced and I was intrigued but too excited as it looked like just a generic 3D Mario title, fast forward to E3 and when they showed off turning into enemies I was all there for that and screamed when we saw the dinosaur. I can’t quite explain how excited I am for this game but I am fairly confident my FMP at Uni is going to suffer from this game’s existence. I did have an enrichment week at game launch but that’s been removed now so I’ll just have to make time for it (Hopefully I’m “sick”).
