Music News

We encounter music everywhere from places we’d expect to see it like festivals where we attend to see our favourite artists perform to instrumental tracks used in vlogs on YouTube to keep us invested in the on screen content. I’m introducing a new series where we’ll discuss the events of the last week in terms of new music and general news!

Our highlights this week focus on;

– Taylor Swift’s – Look what you made me do (new music and new video release)
– Musician spotted in GoT end scene (No… not Ed Sheeran)
– You Me At Six perform stripped back song at Reading and Leeds Festival

Taylor Swift-

She’s back and apparently dead. Seriously, from featuring a bridge where old Taylor can’t come to the phone because she’s dead to deleting her old images off Instagram, she has a completely new style. (See below where the only images on her Instagram are about her new Album ‘Reputation’).

Say goodbye to the country princess, it’s more gothic goddess with her twisted lyrics paying homage to every feud Taylor has had since her last music release (Kanye, Kim Kardashian and Katy Perry to name a few).

GoT; special guest…

This week for saw the Season 7 finale of Game of Thrones! Earlier this season we saw singer/ songwriter Ed Sheeran singing before he is interrupted by a travelling Arya Stark who is on her way to Kingslanding to kill Cersei/ The Queen.

As much as people had mixed opinions on this, there was another cameo in the final scene of the finale that was less obvious. Members Kyle Simmons and Dick Meredith from the band Bastille were seen as Wight Walkers in the march over the wall.

You Me At Six at Reading and Leeds Festival –
Last weekend was the much-loved festival where we have seen such acts as Metallica, Red Hot Chilli Peppers and Ed Sheeran headline the main stage. This year we had the pleasure of listening to You Me At Six who performed a first, stripped back version of ‘Night People’. Personally, I love the acoustic versions that YMA6 release for example ‘Underdog’ a favourite focusing on the acoustic guitar and the use of voices.

To see the YMA6 in action, click to see them perform ‘Take on The World’.

New album releases to look out for;

– The Script – Freedom Child – September 1st
– Living Colour – Shade- September 8th

That’s all for this week, come back next week for even more music news. We’ll find out if Taylor Swift stole the UK number 1 spot and more! Let us know if you have any suggestions for next weeks Music News;
